The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Ltd is organising the HSBC Bird Race, a signature event of the bank to create awareness about nature, here on Sunday.

The HSBC Bird Race is a dawn-to-dusk event and each of the four-member team will be named after birds found locally such as kingfisher, cuckoo and woodpecker etc. The teams will spend the entire day spotting and identifying birds in an effort to record as many species of birds as possible.

The race has been positioned as a fun event and is aimed at generating awareness among people about the bird life surrounding the region as well as support for the conservation of nature and the environment.

Ms Amala Akkineni, film actress and animal rights activist, and Mr Sunjoy Monga, a naturalist and avid birdwatcher, will be present.

The President, Birdwatcher Society of Andhra Pradesh, will be the chief adjudicator.
