Narsee Monjee Institute plans campus in Singapore

Deepak Goel

New Delhi , Nov. 24

The Government's reservation on domestic colleges setting up campuses abroad notwithstanding, the Mumbai-based deemed university, Narsee Monjee Institute of Management and Higher Studies (NMIMHS) is planning a campus in Singapore.

To come up in time for the 2008 session, this campus will offer MBA in Global Business course to start with. "We believe in internationalisation of ideas and exchanges and hence the requirement for the campus," the Vice-Chancellor of NMIMHS, Dr N.M. Kondap, told Business Line on the sidelines of a industry-academia convergence seminar in the Capital on Thursday.

At its existing campus in Mumbai, the institute is starting two new courses — five-year integrated hotel management programme and a course in architecture for the same duration. "As the infrastructure is growing and construction is on the rise and as India is going to be the next global hub for tourism, the need for professionals for these sectors is going to rise," said Dr Kondap.

The idea behind the courses for the young students is to develop management competency among them right from the beginning, he added. The institute is also planning to forge alliances with foreign colleges for student and faculty exchange.

The fee could be in the range Rs 1.6 lakh per year for both courses, though the final decision will be taken later. The intake will be 60 students a year for both programmes.

The deemed university is also starting a one-year MBA course for working executives with minimum five years experience. The full-time residential programme will begin from the next session.
