New Delhi , Nov. 24 DaimlerChrysler India (DCI) expects to sell 2,000 cars of its various models in the current year, said Dr Wilfried Aulbur, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, DCI. Sales till the end of October stood around 1,700 units, he said. The parent company DaimlerChrysler is targeting a substantial portion of the total turnover from Asia and its Indian arm intends to play a greater role in strategic forays in this part of the globe. When asked about specific forays the company was looking at, Dr Aulbur declined to comment.
India is important market
"India is an important market for DaimlerChrysler and an important part of our overall Asia strategy," he said, while launching new models in the E-Class of Mercedes-Benz on Friday. DaimlerChrysler India launched the E280 (petrol version), E280CDI (diesel version), E200 KOMPRESSOR and the E350 models. The E-Class range has 2,000 parts that are new or further developments than its predecessor, according to the company. "We have been able to present our Indian customers with the new generation E-Class within five months of its global introduction in June 2006. This is in line with our commitment to offer the very best products and technologies from the Mercedes-Benz stable, in the least possible time," Dr Aulbur said. The models are priced between Rs 43 lakh and Rs 60 lakh.
