Opinion - Letters
India-China relations

After the Chinese President's visit to India and the signing of several agreements between the two coutries, the climate for investment has improved. Several Indian companies have already tested the waters in China.

It will be interesting to see how the Indian government and the companies react to large investments from China. Will they fight shy of the competition or take this as an opportunity to introduce better technology and bring about efficiency? What about the manufacturing sector? Will it be able to stand China's entry? Will the government throw open the doors or protect domestic companies? The manufacturing sector may, in fact, benefit from the competition.

It is hoped that the two giants will show the world what co-operation can achieve. As they say in China, may everyone live in interesting times.
