Polaroid digital cameras unveiled

Our Bureau

Mumbai , Nov. 29

The MCC Group, which serves as the sole national distributor of Polaroid cameras, has unveiled four Polaroid digital cameras. The launch marks Polaroid's first venture into the Indian digital camera market. The cameras have been launched in four cities — Mumbai, New Delhi, Bangalore and Hyderabad — with the intention of having a national presence by January.

The cameras offered are the Polaroid i533 (five mega pixels), the i733 (seven mega pixels), i832 (eight mega pixels) and the i1032 (10 mega pixels). All four models have an LCD display screen of at least 2.4 inches and come with 3x optical zoom.

Despite 85 per cent of the Indian digital camera market falling under the $200 (approximately Rs 9,000) price range, only one of the four models, the i533 at Rs 9,490, is priced in that vicinity.

The company plans to roll out cameras with six and seven mega pixels resolution, but with smaller LCD screens and less optical zoom, in the same price range.

MCC will use its existing infrastructure network of 30,000 retail stores in 16 cities to sell the cameras.

The MCC Group, established in 1912, is a service-based national sales and distribution company in the entertainment media and electronic sectors. The company introduced "colour photo" technology in India in 1954. It reported consolidated sales of $20 million in 2005-06.
