New Projects States - Andhra Pradesh Merieux plans R&D centre in Hyderabad Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Nov. 29 French vaccine major Merieux Alliance will locate its global prophylactic vaccine research and development centre in Hyderabad. The State Government would provide the infrastructural facilities and land at Karakapatla, Phase III of the Biotech Park. Dr Alan Merieux, Chairman of the Lyon-based Merieux Group, Dr Georges Hibon, Chairman, Shantha Biotechnics Ltd, Hyderabad, Mr K.I. Varaprasada Reddy, Founder & Managing Director of Shantha Biotechnics and Mr Khalil Ahmed, Executive Director, met the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, and discussed the issue today. The team discussed the manufacturing and marketing of a recombinant human healthcare product, according to a release from the Chief Minister's Office here. The French Group had early this month acquired a major stake in Shantha Biotechnics, which specialised in indigenous development of recombinant vaccines. They picked up the stake from Oman Bank and other investors from Oman. Mr Varaprasada Reddy, the founder and Khalil Ahmed, together owning about 20 per cent did not divest and were retained or given bigger roles.
