Loans to Bengal touch Rs 100.88 cr

With the latest sanction of Rs 64.04 crore to the Government of West Bengal for various projects under Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF XII), the total loans sanctioned have reached Rs 100.88 crore as on November 30, 2006, during the current financial year covering 1,275 projects, says a press release. The projects include construction of rural education institute, marketing complex, minor irrigation structures, residential school for backward and tribal students and brick-paved roads in Sunderbans area.

Among this, 754 minor irrigation structures will be created with an additional irrigation potential of 5,568 hectares in 17 districts. These include innovative projects like sprinkler irrigation and hydram in the hilly areas of Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri districts. Hydram operates with the hydraulic pressure without any electricity or fuel. Since inception, loan under RIDF has cumulatively reached Rs 3,567 crore for 19,472 projects, adds the release.
