Industry status sought for hotels

Our Bureau

Kolkata , Nov 30

The newly elected President of the Federation of Hotels & Restaurants Association of India (FHRAI), Mr Rajesh Mishra, has urged the Centre to confer industry status on hotels under the Industries (Development & Regulation) Act, 1951 so that the hoteliers can enjoy the benefit of power at industrial rates and other benefits applicable to industries.

Speaking to newspersons, Mr Mishra said that uniform taxation policy must be followed by all State Governments and Union Territories on VAT, luxury and entertainment tax and State excise duty.

The long-awaited demand of the hotel industry to grant the infrastructure status under Section 80 IA of the Income-Tax Act should be met.
