"The Indian semiconductor ecosystem is ready; we now dream of an electronic ecosystem,'' declared chipmaker Texas Instruments, while showcasing electronic products based on its chips at a developer conference in the city.

From making a tooth drill noiseless, to powering a smart IP (internet protocol) surveillance camera and portable ultrasound equipment, the company's processors are being used in a variety of electronic products that change daily lives.

While demonstrating high definition video conferencing using a solution by Lifesize Communication, Mr Bobby Mitra, Managing Director, Texas Instruments, said, "India is now the market and we want to ride the wave."

The video conferencing solution runs on five of TI's DM642 processor, and offers 1280x720 pixel resolution, at 30 frames per second over the Internet. The solution costs from $8,000 to $12,000.

Gujarat-based eInfochips also showcased an intelligent surveillance camera reference design based on Texas Instruments' Da Vinci platform.

Called Netra, the camera uses a Web-based interface and tracks objects such as cars, offering an alert mechanism.

Sasken's Aria is a suite of tools for mobiles, used to develop applications and build features onto lower-end mobile phones. Aria relies on TI's LoCosta, a platform that brings single-chip solutions from ultra-low to entry-range wireless handsets. LoCosta has the entire RF (radio frequency) subsystem on a single chip; this allows Sasken to give a smart phone experience to users of a low tier mobile.

Ittiam announced the availability of an IP videophone based on the newly released Windows Embedded CE 6.0 operating system. Built on TMS320DM6446 - a DaVinci technology based processor from TI, this phone, code named IPVP6446, has been licensed across the US, Europe and Asia and is priced at $300, said Mr Srini Rajam, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Ittiam Systems.
