Space Hospitals plans expansion

Space Hospitals is planning to open 20 satellite medical centres and telemedicine clinics across Kerala. The venture will be undertaken with Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences as the major associate hospital, as well as other large hospitals.

Space Hospitals is also planning to widen its services to remote areas by connecting more hospitals and satellite medical centres throughout the country.

With the 20 satellite medical centres, we also plan to conduct free telemedicine clinics in Kerala, Col. E Padmanabhan, COO of Space Hospital, said.

"Space hospitals, with 50 satellite medical centres all over India and 4 regional associate hospitals in South India at present, is to expand with an expected investment of Rs 12 crore, by August 2007. The talks for tie-up with hospitals to connect with their peripheral centres and with the public sector organizations are in final stages. The satellite centres are expected to cover every district headquarters of each state within the timeframe," he said.

Eyes Kolkata

The company plans to launch its telemedicine services soon in Kolkata as well, in addition to the existing locations Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Chennai. The company already provides its services to 14 major super specialty hospitals in India.

It is on a venture to deliver telemedicine services to 10 more major hospitals and around 10 big public sector organisations.

Space Hospitals also plans to establish 500 satellite medical centres, 800 telemedicine centres and to add 40 regional associate hospitals within a year.

At least 15 per cent of the patient-doctor consultation in India in the next five years is expected to be over the telemedicine sector, which is expected to provide specialty healthcare service to the school children and the old people in remote villages.

Space Hospitals also planned to launch 10 mobile telemedicine units in the states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and three other States in North India.
