V. Prakash to be CSIR chief

Dr V. Prakash, Director, Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysore, will assume the charge of the Director-General, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and Secretary, Department of Scientific & Industrial Research, from January 1, 2007. The present DG, Dr R. A. Mashelkar, will attain super annuation on December 31, said an official release. Dr Prakash, an outstanding food technologist, has contributed in bringing together the producer and grower of farm produce and small entrepreneur, with a focus on economic upliftment and employment generation by promoting adaptable technologies, it added. He is the Fellow of Indian Academy of Sciences and Royal Society of Chemistry, UK. The President of India honoured him with the Padma Shri in 2004 in recognition of his outstanding service to the nation in the field of Science and Engineering.
