Taxation Net direct tax collections top Rs 1 lakh cr K. R. Srivats
New Delhi , Dec. 2 The Centre's net direct tax collections have exceeded the Rs 1 lakh crore mark as the revenue mop up in April-December 1 period touched Rs 1,00,850 crore. This represented a 38 per cent increase over the collections level in the same period previous year, a Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) official said. In fiscal 2005-06, the Centre's direct tax collections stood at Rs 1,65,208 crore. The direct tax collections in 2004-05 stood at Rs 1,32,771 crore. The budget estimate for direct taxes for 2006-07 has been pegged at Rs 2,10,684 crore, which represents a 27.5 per cent over the collections of 2005-06. On the indirect tax front, the Centre's customs duty collections had registered a 32.7 per cent increase in April-October 2006 to Rs 49,216 crore (provisional) as compared to Rs 37,085 crore in the same period previous year. Excise duty collections of the Centre increased by 5.8 per cent to Rs 60,641 crore (provisional) during April-October from 57,104 crore in the same period previous year. The budget estimates for central excise duty collection for 2006-07 stood at Rs 1,19,000 crore. For customs duty, the budget estimate for 2006-07 has been pegged at Rs 77,066 crore.
