Perot Systems bullish on Indian healthcare market

Vishwanath Kulkarni

To finalise its strategy to expand footprint by March

Future plans
Perot sees big opportunity in the hospital infrastructure side, where it offers networking, data centre and helpdesk services among others.
The company also offers application management and consulting services and BPO services such as claims processing.

Bangalore, Dec. 3

Perot Systems is eyeing the Indian healthcare industry for its solutions and expects to finalise its strategy by the end of the current financial year.

Perot, which mainly operates in the US and the UK markets, is taking a hard look at couple of countries including India and Canada for expanding its footprint.

A team of senior officials consisting of the Executive Vice-President and the Chief Strategy Officer is currently in India to study the healthcare scenario and assess the market potential. Perot Systems feels the Indian healthcare market, estimated to be over $30 billion, would double over the next 7-10 years.

Evaluating options

"We are very bullish on the Indian market," said Mr Kevin M. Fickenscher, Executive Vice-President of healthcare transformation at Perot Systems. "India is at the very beginning of the adopting technology in the healthcare system. We are evaluating various options on how to address the Indian market with our solutions," he added.

Perot Systems plans to address both private and public healthcare systems including small clinics. "As we finalise our plan, we plan to approach the Government to address the larger market," he said.

Perot's Chief Strategy Officer, Mr George Yurek, said the company expects to finalise its strategy for India by March. "We are exploring options such as offering our services through a hosted environment on the application services provider model," he said.

Big opportunity

Perot sees big opportunity in the hospital infrastructure side, where it offers networking, data centre and helpdesk services among others. The company also offers application management and consulting services and BPO services such as claims processing. "As the insurance model evolves in Indian healthcare, we will look at that also," Mr Yurek said.

About two-third of Perot's 20,000-odd workforce is located in India. Perot expects to leverage on its current infrastructure to offer these services. Perot, which has delivery centres in India, operates from Bangalore, Chennai, Coimbatore and Noida, where it has a data centre.
