DR ABE PELED, Chairman & CEO, NDS Group, addressing a press conference in Mumbai on Monday. — Shashi Ashiwal

Mumbai , Dec. 4

UK-based digital entertainment technology firm NDS is keen on launching IPTV services in India, said Dr Abe Peled, Chairman and CEO of NDS Group plc.

"We have a worldwide strategy in acquisitions and are currently in discussions with various players interested in partnering for IPTV services in India," he said, without specifying a timeframe. NDS is increasing its presence in India with the opening of a sales and support operation in Mumbai.

Mumbai office

"The opening of the NDS Mumbai office is in recognition that the Indian market itself is ready for the wide-scale deployment of digital pay-TV," he said.

NDS has been operating a research and development facility in Bangalore for over five years. This facility has nearly 600 employees. NDS systems currently support the Tata Sky direct-to-home service and Hathway Cable and Datacom digital cable TV operations, said a statement from the company.

Broadcast regulator TRAI has fixed a ceiling of Rs 5 per pay channel per month under the CAS regime, which according to Mr Peled would serve as a major constraining factor.
