New Business Industry & Economy - Medical Institutions & Hospitals Apollo goes for `Ambient Experience' Madhumathi D.S.
Recently in Chicago Another Philips' initiative is its `Ambient Experience' concept, which promotes patient-friendly settings for radiology units and operation theatres in hospitals, among others. From India, the Apollo group of hospitals has placed the first order worth € 4.4 million (around Rs 26 crore) for India's first ambient hospital, Mr Wayne Spittle, the Asia-Pacific Vice-President of Philips Medical Systems, said. It could not be immediately ascertained if this was for one or all of its facilities in Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad. The ambient package combines Philips' expertise in medical systems, lighting, semiconductors and design. The effect is soft lighting, mood themes and music to soothe the edgy nerves of critically ill patients, especially children. Philips says it has installed it in several hospitals across the US and found that it reduced both scanning and sedation time; and may add 30 per cent to the buyer's bill, without necessarily translating to patient charges. The Japanese and Chinese hospital orders for ambient experience are worth over € 12 million each, Mr Spittle said.
