Tea Tea production slips in South P.S. Sundar
Coonoor , Dec 5 Tea production in the South, in the first nine months, has fallen even as it increased in the North. According to the information available with the Tea Board, production in the South has fallen 5.82 million kg (mkg) between January and September to 171 mkg. Tamil Nadu posted the largest decline in the country. The production fell by 6 mkg to 117 mkg. Karnataka lost 0.2 mkg. But, Kerala produced 0.5 million kg more.
North output up
The production in the North, however, posted an increase of 29.7 mkg to 539 mkg. Every tea-growing district recorded a higher crop except Cachar where the output fell 2.6 mkg to 28.2 mkg. Assam produced the highest volume of 363 mkg (up 11.7 mkg) in the country followed by West Bengal at 151 mkg (up 17.5 mkg). District-wise, Assam Valley produced the highest volume of 335 mkg (up 14 mkg) followed by Dooars at 108 mkg (up 11 mkg).
