Mumbai , Dec. 5 Tata Power has received seven licences from the Government for manufacturing electronic systems and products for defence services. According to the company, the licences would enable Tata Power to be the prime contractor to the Ministry of Defence for designing, development, manufacturing, assembling and upgrading critical systems in seven core areas of defence strategic electronics.
The licences also help design, development and manufacture of avionics, airborne assemblies, systems and equipment for aircrafts, helicopters and AWACS, a release from the company said.
According to Mr Rahul Chaudhry, CEO, Tata Power, Strategic Electronics Division, the division is poised to harness its multi-disciplinary capabilities and emerge as a long-term partner to Indian Defence forces. "Over next five years these licences open a domestic addressable market of over Rs 20,000 crore, for Tata Power, which includes upgrades of existing platforms."
The licences relating Geographic Information System will help integrate the system with communication and navigation system for Defence and civilian applications.
It will also enable Tata Power design, development, manufacture, assembly and upgrade Naval Combat, Air Defence, Artillery, Command and Control Systems, Border Security and Surveillance.
The company will also design, develop, manufacture, assemble and upgrade weapon systems for rocket and missile launchers.
Earlier this year, Tata Power had secured orders for Pinaka Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher System from the Indian Army and Futuristic Automatic Data Handling System for Air Defence from the Indian Air Force.
