ACCENTURE IRKED

Accenture has informed tea trade centres of Coimbatore and Coonoor centres orally about its decision to withdraw support.

Coimbatore , Dec. 6

Tea auctions in Kochi could not take place in electronic mode on Wednesday as Accenture has reportedly withdrawn support to the e-auction system. Doubts also persist if auctions will take place in Coonoor and Coimbatore on Thursday and Friday.

Accenture, it is learnt, has orally informed the Tea Trade centres of Coimbatore and Coonoor about its decision of withdrawing support as the terms and conditions of the contract remained unfulfilled.

Pending dues

Sources say that the dues were close to 13 months salary, but were not too sure of the outstanding sum.

The Rs 30-crore eAuction project was funded by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

Trade sources say the Ministry had agreed to fund the project for two years, after which the system would have to be supported from the revenue generated by the industry.

Rough weather

The project ran into rough weather many a time in the last two years, with the traders generally raising their voice about the inefficiency of the electronic auction system.

It remains to be seen whether this reversal in developments would affect the industry. Meanwhile, the auction was conducted manually at Kochi, after the counters witnessed problems in connectivity at start.
