AN ELEPHANT being photographed on a mobile phone in Thrissur. Telecom operators in the country added nearly 6.6 million subscribers in October this year, the highest number of new cellular users in the world.

GSM operators added 4.7 million users in October and the CDMA operators accounted for 1.9 million new users, making the total mobile base in the country to about 130 million, says a report by the Cellular Operators Association of India.
