Sports Bowled over
Here is one more to gladden the hearts of Sourav Ganguly fans. His return to the Indian test cricket side has not only spawned numerous headlines and TV footage, even the London School of Economics (LSE) has taken note of it. In the capital this week for the LSE Asia Forum 2006 meeting, the Director, Howard Davis, made a reference to the cricketer. At the meeting, attended by the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, among other distinguished guests, it was announced that the RBI, SBI and LIC had sponsored the I. G. Patel Chair at the LSE where the late economist was once the Director, and that Nicholas Stern, currently head of the UK Government Economic Service, would be the first worthy to hold that title. Nicholas Stern, a former Chief Economist at the World Bank, was also a professor at the LSE in the early 1990s and Howard Davis, announcing his return to the institution commented: Now that Prof Stern is rejoining the LSE, we should welcome him back as Sourav Ganguly has been welcomed back in the cricket team! Ganguly fans are now figuring out ways to bring this to Greg Chappel's notice.
