Kolkata , Dec. 7 Eight leading local chambers of commerce have jointly expressed concern over politicisation of the industrial investment in West Bengal, particularly in the wake of recent developments centered around the emergence of a major manufacturing project. A statement jointly signed by the chambers of commerce Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Bengal National Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Bharat Chamber of Commerce, Calcutta Chamber of Commerce, Confederation of Indian Industry (ER), Indian Chamber of Commerce, Merchants Chamber of Commerce and Oriental Chamber of Commerce has stated that there is a growing anxiety amongst all sections of concerned stakeholders in the society that the thrust towards industrial regeneration could receive a severe setback. In a separate statement, Mr Pradeep Rawat, President of the Federation of Small & Medium Industries said that for more than three decades the industry was struggling to survive in the State. Tata Motors' interest to set up a plant here kindled a hope amongst the small and medium enterprises, for they expected that this project would herald an era of resurgence for the industrial development in the state. Many other industrial houses are watching the development. Should the project come through it would certainly encourage other big ones to follow suit. Obviously a development like that would open opportunities for a large number of small and medium enterprises and generate jobs for the skilled manpower which has remained underemployed through the decades, he felt.
