Mangalore , Dec. 7

First Indian Corporation Pvt Ltd - a wholly owned subsidiary of the First American Corporation, the largest provider of business information in the US - has selected Mangalore as the third city to establish its operations in India.

At present, First Indian Corporation operates from Hyderabad and Bangalore centres.

Addressing the members of the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) at an interactive session here on Thursday, Mr Anoop Hegde, Country Manager, First Indian Corporation Pvt Ltd, said that the new facility of the First Indian Corporation will initially support transaction processing services for the US mortgage industry.

"First Indian Corporation will initially seek to recruit about 250 local professionals and leverage the city's infrastructure to deliver services to its parent company," he said. The timeline to start operations is by April 1.

Stating that the company's expansion of operation into Mangalore represents the next phase of its multiple-location strategic growth plans, Mr Hegde said: "We have successfully operated in Hyderabad and Bangalore for the past 12 years, and Mangalore's vast talent pool makes it a very attractive location to support our growth."

Apart from Mangalore, cities such as Chennai, Pune, Mysore and Hubli-Dharwad were in the race for establishing the third facility of First Indian Corporation in the country. More than 5,300 professionals are now employed in First Indian Corporation's centres in Hyderabad and Bangalore.

The company's primary areas of focus include title insurance, property tax, default management services and credit and property information. It assimilates and delivers information that helps the customers of First American Corporation to make decisions and operate their businesses, he said.

Welcoming the gathering, Capt J.P. Menezes, KCCI President, said that the universities should change their curriculum to suit the needs of the industry. He hoped that the establishment of First Indian Corporation's facility in Mangalore would act as an anchor for other service industries to come to Mangalore.
