HIGHER PRICES: Paddy being planted in a field near Palakkad in Kerala. Rice prices are gaining on Asian currencies strengthening against the dollar despite the market being quite. Higher prices are encouraging farmers to go in for crops such as rice. During the current rabi season, the area under rice has gone up mainly on increased acreage in Andhra Pradesh and Kerala.
