Prices steady at Kochi tea sale

, Finer grades of CTC tea were dearer at the Kochi tea auction by Rs2-4, while bolder varieties remained dearer. Medium CTC varieties remained barely steady. Prices of orthodox high grown varieties eased, while medium varieties remained steady.

Loose tea trade was quite active in CTC varieties. Medium bolder CTC varieties witnessed good enquiry from exporters and inter-State buyers, while orthodox dust also generated good enquiry from exporters. Major blenders lent support to liquoring CTC varieties.

Best CTC varieties fetched between Rs 60-70, medium CTC was at Rs 48-52, and below medium ranged between Rs 40-43. High grown BOPD realised Rs 110, medium BOPD was at Rs 42 and secondaries quoted at Rs 36-39.

Leaf Sale

There was a good general demand at the leaf tea auction which had 3.7 lakh kg on offer. Prices of good medium broken and whole leaf grades remained steady. Medium secondaries and fanning tended to ease, while high grown varieties remained steady.

Prices of CTC smaller broken and fannings were dearer, while others remained barely steady to irregular. Good medium and high grown orthodox witnessed export enquiry from CIS shippers. There was enquiry from Iraq exporters for orthodox teas

. Medium and smaller CTC varieties were in demand from exporters. Enquiry was also evident from inter-State buyers as well.

Best Nilgiri varieties fetched between Rs 70-90, medium orthodox was at Rs 46-50, while plain orthodox quoted between Rs 44-45. Best CTC leaf fetched between Rs 47-52 and medium CTC ranged at Rs 41-44.

Top Prices

Kodanad BOPD quoted the top price in the dust segment at Rs 110; Pasuparai FD at Rs 88; Pasuparai SFD at Rs 83 and Pasuparai RD at Rs 75. In the leaf segment, Quinshola FOPS fetched the top price at Rs 127; Glendale FP at Rs 122; Havukal FP at Rs 121 and Havukal FOP at Rs 112.
