Indian unveils e-ticketing facility

Bangalore , Dec. 8

Indian, the national carrier, today took a leap to modernise its ticket sales through online. The simple procedure will enable customers book their tickets through its Web site, either through the travel agent or at the airline's booking offices.

The facility of e-ticketing will be available for travel between the metro cities — Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore. It will be extended to all stations on the airline's network later. Amadeus is the IT service provider for e-ticketing, said an Indian release.

E-ticketing obviates the need to be in possession of the physical ticket required by the passenger for purposes of check-in and travel. However, every passenger who books on Indian flights, will have an electronically held record of his/her itinerary on the airline's reservation system which is, an electronic image of the ticket and will be issued a printout of an Itinerary Receipt (ITR) with his flight(s) and payment details.

All that is required to check-in is a print of the ITR and a photo identification of the person who is travelling. Driving licence, photo identity card, passport or photo credit cards are some of the accepted documents for verification of identity before a passenger is issued a boarding card.
