Customs duty collections up 35 pc in Apr-Nov

Excise duty collections up by 6.1 per cent

New Delhi , Dec. 9

The Centre's customs duty revenues continue to be buoyant, with collections recording a 34.9-per cent increase in April-November 2006 to Rs 56,991 crore against Rs 42,260 crore in the same period last year.

If this growth rate were to continue in the remaining months, the Centre would comfortably achieve the budgeted target of Rs 77,066 crore for fiscal 2006-07.

In November 2006, customs duty collections touched a level of Rs 7,775 crore. This represents a 50.2 per cent jump over the collection level of Rs 5,175 crore in November 2005.

On the excise duty front, collections have gone up by 6.1 per cent to Rs 69,957 crore during April-November 2006 from a level of Rs 65,940 crore in the same period last year. The budget estimate for 2006-07 has been pegged at Rs 1,17,967 crore.

In the month of November 2006, excise duty collections stood at Rs 9,556 crore. This represents an 8.2 per cent increase over the collection level of Rs 8,835 crore in the same month last year.

Meanwhile, an official release said the Centre's service tax collections during April-October 2006 increased by 64.8 per cent to Rs 18,776 crore (Rs 11,394 crore). In October 2006, service tax collections stood at Rs 2,795 crore (Rs 1,715 crore)
