Protein load for Vizag

Vizag port is targeting soya traffic.

VCTPL, a joint venture between United Liner Agencies and Dubai Port International running Visakhapatnam port's container terminal, Visakha Containter Terminal (VCT), is now targeting soya traffic for exports through the terminal and accordingly held meetings with the Soyabean Processors Association of India recently.

There being a bumper soya crop this year, an estimated eight million tonnes, it is expected that about five million tonnes will be offered for exports. Since the major buyers are Indonesia, Thailand, Korea, Japan and China, VCT feels that it makes sense to route the exports to these countries through the Visakhapatnam port rather than the west coast ports.

Apart from the cost advantage of the east coast port being closer to the Far-East destinations, there are other benefits in terms of cheaper inland haulage and availability of warehousing space. Connectivity between hinterland and terminal being good, the consignments can brought to the terminal either by road or by rail.
