New Delhi , Dec 12 Bharti Teletech, the manufacturing arm of the Bharti Group, has entered into a distribution tie-up with the US-based communication solution provider Polycom. As part of the agreement, Bharti will market Polycom's high-end voice and video conferencing solutions in India. Bharti Teletech is targeting revenues of $50 million over the next two years. Polycom will be able to leverage Bharti Teletech's network of over 40,000 retailers in the country. Polycom also launched five new products on the occasion; they are priced between Rs 12,000 and Rs 35,000.
Targets SME, SOHOs
With this alliance, Polycom aims to reach out to a major proportion of the SME and SOHO market. Additionally, Bharti Teletech will provide instant service support through its countrywide network of 146 authorised service franchisees. Bharti Teletech also shares close associations with six active OEMs dealing in Internet Protocol (IP)-based systems and will leverage on its large base of over 1,000 corporate customers for promoting Polycom's IP solutions. Polycom's range of video and audio customer premise equipment (CPE) will also be offered to Airtel's enterprise customers across India. Mr Sunil Bhalla, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Polycom Voice Communications, said: "We are certain that with Bharti's retail expertise and strong domain knowledge we are in an excellent position to address the communications needs of India's customers and make them accessible to a wider range of entrepreneurial businesses than ever before." Mr Rakesh Bharti Mittal, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of Bharti Teletech, said: "The partnership will enable Bharti Teletech enhance its position in the voice and video conferencing market. "It reinforces our commitment to offer international quality products to our customers by leveraging our robust network and in-depth understanding of India's communications market."
Similar alliances
Bharti Teletech's has a similar distribution alliance with Thompson, wherein it manufactures and markets GE phones in the country. The other tie-up is with Motorola for selling GSM mobile phones and accessories. Bharti Teletech makes fixed line phones under the Beetel brand and exports phones to 30 countries. In the current fiscal it has already exported 1.5 million telephones. The company has two manufacturing facilities with a total annual capacity of six million phones, expandable to 10 million.
