Pune , Dec. 13

Pune, which recorded tax collection of Rs 6,700 crore during last fiscal, is targeting Rs 8,000 crore this fiscal.

It has collected close to Rs 4,600 crore by November end, Mr Santosh Datta, Chief Commissioner of Income-Tax, told presspersons here.

During last fiscal, the city generated Rs 6,700 crore as revenue which included Rs 3,750 crore as corporate tax. The rest was from personal tax.

Mr Datta said efforts were also being taken to scrutinise the taxreturns filed by the assessees.

Currently, only one per cent is being scrutinised but with the computerisation drive in the department, more scrutiny could be carried out.

Refund receipts

There has also been a 20 per cent increase in refunds. As against Rs 659 crore during last fiscal, the department this year has issued refund receipts to the tune of Rs 525 crore, he said.

selective action

Commenting on the selective action initiated by the I-T Department, Mr Datta said about 170 surveys had been carried out till November end this year, and the concealed income detection was close to Rs 100 crore.

During the corresponding period last year, about 260 surveys had been carried out but had resulted only in Rs 48 crore as concealed income detection.

Mr Datta said the department would be taking into its fold about 462 officials to ensure that shortage of staff does not impair the results.

This is out of the 7,000 appointments which was cleared by the Union Cabinet recently, he added.
