"What is a successful model for clinical research in the rural setting? What can be done if we can harness the energy of children playing in the park? Can natural products be dried quickly at room temperature in a non-destructive manner?

What will traffic management for the future broadband networks look like?'' These are some of the sample problems that are to be showcased at the Innovations 2007 to be held in Pune on January 6.

The event is to be organised by Pune chapters of the IIT Bombay Alumni Association and the Indus Entrepreneurs.

Dr Shridhar Shukla, President, IITBAA, Pune Chapter, said the committee had received 145 nominations, of which 15 have been shortlisted.

These are in the sectors of IT and telecom (three), biotech (one), pharma (two), chemical process (two), manufacturing engineering (three), manufacturing process technology (four) and electronics (one).

He said the nominations have come from across the country while noting that far off places such as Jharkhand and Kerala have also come up with nominations.

He said a panel of 11 domain experts have assisted in the selection process in which the first round of screening saw 45 nominations.

These were whittled down to 15. The keynote address is to be delivered by Mr Gururaj Deshpande and the concluding remarks by Mr Arun Shourie who would give `the Indian perspective'.
