Hyderabad , Dec. 13

About 200 scientists from the world over have gathered at ICRISAT to attend the first ever conclave on reviving the rich legacy of indigenous vegetables and legumes.

Such foodstuff can help address problems of obesity and malnourishment alike. "Indigenous vegetables could address both the problems well," Dr Thomas Lumpkin, Director-General of AVRDC, an international vegetable research and development centre, said.

Delivering the keynote address at the four-day international conference here on Monday, he said such crops can provide both livelihood and nutritional security to the small farmers in developing countries.
