Tea 7-week low offer at Coonoor tea acutions P.S. Sundar
Coonoor , Dec. 13 A volume of 10.42-lakh kg has been catalogued for sale at the Coonoor Tea Trade Association auctions to be held here on Thursday and Friday. This is the lowest volume in the last seven weeks. It is 2.3-lakh kg lower than last week's offer, but higher than that of the corresponding week last year when only 9.26-lakh kg were offered. The leaf volume was almost the same as now, but the dust volume was lower. Of the total volume on offer now, as much as 7.72-lakh kg belong to the leaf grades and the rest dust grades. Again, as much as 9.58-lakh kg belong to CTC variety and only 0.84-lakh kg orthodox. The composition of orthodox variety continues to be low in both the leaf and dust grades. In the leaf grades, as much as 7.26-lakh kg belong to CTC and only 0.46 lakh kg orthodox. In the dust grades, as much as 2.32-lakh kg belong to CTC and only 0.38 lakh kg dust. "We expect the firming of prices witnessed in the last three weeks to continue as the volume remains low. If the domestic and export demand follow the recent trend, there is chance of the price going up this week as well," an auctioneer told Business Line.
