Power Coal linkages for ultra mega power projects allocated Our Bureau
New Delhi , Dec. 14 The Centre has allocated a coal block for the proposed Sasan power project in Madhya Pradesh and the process for importing coal has been initiated for the Mundra project in Gujarat the first couple of 4,000 MW-each thermal stations being set up under the Centre's ultra mega power projects scheme. Speaking at the sidelines of an energy conservation seminar here, the Union Power Minister, Mr Sushil Kumar Shinde, admitted to a delay in the announcement of the winning bidders for the two projects. The Power Finance Corporation (PFC), the nodal agency appointed by the Centre for implementing the bidding process, will open price bids for the two projects on December 18, he said. Mr Shinde said the Sasan project had received 10 bids and six parties are in the fray for the Mundra mega power project. The PFC was scheduled to open the price bids for Sasan and Mundra projects on December 11, but could not due to the absence of the chairman of the apex committees evaluating the bids. Asked about how the Government was planning to finance the additional capacity generation targeted for the Eleventh Plan, Mr Shinde said there is no dearth of resources or interest. "This is evident from the number of bids we have received for the first two projects," he said. The Government envisages an investment of Rs 5,00,000 crore for building an additional generation capacity of 66,000 MW during the Eleventh Plan.
