,
Dec. 15
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will set up special labour courts and will look at measures to eliminate middlemen from the recruitment sector, said the UAE Labour Minister, Dr Ali bin Abdulla Al-Kaabi.
Addressing the media in the city today, he said that these measures would help ensure better conditions for workers employed in the UAE. India and the UAE recently signed a memorandum on manpower recruitment, he added.
Dr Al-Kaabi was in the city to participate in the inauguration of a pre-departure orientation programme for Keralites seeking jobs abroad.
Earlier, while inaugurating the programme, the Kerala Chief Minister, Mr V. S. Achuthanandan, said that Keralites looking for jobs in foreign countries are hampered by the lack of knowledge of employment-related laws and procedures in those countries. The pre-departure orientation programme will help such people and prevent exploitation aboard, he added.
Organised by the Non-Resident Keralite Affairs Department of the State Government, the pre-departure orientation programme is intended to make overseas job aspirants aware of general job situations abroad.
It also seeks to impart essential information on visas, emigration rules, employment contracts and travel formalities. Training sessions on the laws of different foreign countries, communication programmes and a basic course in Arabic are also part of the programme.
