SWITCHOVER: Groundnut being packed at a shop in Kochi. Area under oilseeds during the current rabi season has declined to 87.60 lakh hectares from 95.09 lakh hectares last year. Farmers have switched over to crops such as wheat, chana and pulses from oilseeds on hopes of getting better prices. Edible oil imports are expected to increase due to this by at least 10 lakh tonnes in the current oil year that began in November.
