Guindy estate all set to get Rs 17-cr facelift

Infrastructure at the Guindy Industrial Estate will be improved at a cost of Rs 17 crore through a public-private-partnership programme.
As part of the Guindy Industrial Estate Infrastructure Development Programme, the Union and State Governmentsand units in the estate will contribute money to develop infrastructure inside the estate, according to Mr K. Gopalakrishnan, President of the Industrial State Manufacturers' Association.
Speaking at the inaugural function of underground sewerage work inside the estate, Mr Gopalakrishnan said that the Rs 7.35-crore project was part of an integrated infrastructure development programme inside the estate.
The Centre and the State Government are providing Rs 2 crore each, the Chennai Corporation Rs 1 crore and the remaining amount is being contributed by industrial units, he said.
Spread over 400 acres, the estate houses over 500 small and tiny units besides development institutions, banks, training centres and functional industrial complexes for garments and electronics. Around 50,000 employees work inside the estate.
Inaugurating the sewerage work, the Minister for Local Administration, Mr M.K. Stalin, said that Rs 322 crore has been allotted to Chennai Metrowater for equal water distribution in the city.
