To commemorate `Suvarna Karnataka'

Bangalore , Dec.15

Taj West End will be the flag off venue of 50 vintage and classic cars to commemorate `Suvarna Karnataka', the State's journey through 50 years.

Karnataka Tourism, in association with Karnataka Vintage and Classic Car Club, is all geared up for `Chalo Karnataka - Heritage to New Age' Classic and Vintage Cars (KVCC) Parade on December 17 at Taj West End.

The Karnataka Director General of Police, Mr K.R. Srinivasan, will flag off the rally. Garuda Mall, a leading shopping mall, and Taj West End are partnering the event.

Classic beauties

The State has a bevy of vintage and classic beauties, which have been preserved by Karnataka Vintage and Classic Car Club. Austins of England, Fords, Citroens that were used by the Maharajas and industrialists of the yesteryears, are some of the cars that are part of the grand parade.

Showcase Heritage

The Secretary of Tourism, Mr I.M. Vittalamurthy, IAS, said, "With over 50 monuments that date back to centuries, with a population comprising people from many states of the country and abroad, it makes sense to use these platforms to showcase the rich culture and heritage to the people of Bangalore and the country. Our aim is to compel people to travel out of Bangalore during weekends to experience these places."

Tourism plans

Karnataka Tourism plans to use this event as a platform to build awareness of various destinations in the State.

To promote heritage sites within the Garden City, the Vintage Car Rally will pass through various historical sites. Placards bearing information on places such as Hampi, Gokarna, Shravanabelagoa and several such getaways, which have rich heritage and culture, attached to them will also be displayed.

Taj West End with a heritage dating back over a 100 years is the perfect backdrop for an event such as the Vintage Car Parade.
