Reliance had approached the Government with a proposal to supply natural gas for city gas distribution projects in Bangalore and other cities in Karnataka

Dec. 15
The Karnataka Government has asked the Union Petroleum Ministry to grant permission to Reliance Industries for supply of natural gas for Bangalore.
In a letter to the Union Petroleum Minister and Natural Gas, Mr Murli Deora, the Karnataka Chief Minister, Mr H.D. Kumaraswamy said Reliance Industries had approached the Government with a proposal to supply natural gas for city gas distribution projects in Bangalore and other cities in the State.
"It appears that the proposal of Reliance Industries is pending with the Government of India for authorisation. I request you to kindly grant necessary authorisation for a pipeline to Karnataka," Mr Kumaraswamy said in his letter.
As per the proposal, Reliance would supply natural gas from the Block KG - D6 for gas distribution projects of various cities in Karnataka.
Mr Kumaraswamy also pointed out that competition among suppliers for distributing gas should be allowed as prescribed under the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board Act, 2006. "I would be grateful if your ministry could actively facilitate implementation of city gas distribution projects in Bangalore and other major cities of Karnataka," the letter stated.
The Chief Minister said no network for the transmission and distribution of natural gas exists in Karnataka. He said there was an assured demand for natural gas in the State for use in power generation, transport, domestic, industrial and commercial sectors, which would make a gas network viable. "I am particularly keen that distribution network should be established in Bangalore and other major cities in the state," Mr Kumaraswamy said in his letter.
