Submits 21-point memorandum to the Mayor

Mangalore , Dec. 15

The Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has urged the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) to chalk out a 30-year vision plan for Mangalore.

In an interactive meeting with the Mayor of Mangalore, Ms Vijaya Arun, on Friday, the members of the KCCI said the time has come for the city to learn from the past and to look ahead for the next 50 to 100 years. They said that it is essential for the city corporation to come out with a vision plan for development for the next 30 years.

Ms Vijaya Arun said the survey work on the ring road for the city is progressing. The MCC is planning to come out with a proposal on the formation of a ring road from Ullal bridge to Kuloor bridge on the outskirts of the city. The proposed road will help ease traffic in the city limits.

Added to this, the corporation is planning to construct four-lane concrete roads in various stretches of the city. It hopes to complete 20-km stretch of concrete roads in the city limits in the next 10 years.

Infrastructure projects

Expecting a massive growth in the city's population in the coming years, the MCC, with loan assistance from the Asian Development Bank, has taken up the work on infrastructure projects such as water supply and drainage, she said.

The KCCI members submitted a 21-point memorandum to the Mayor, seeking result-oriented action plan from the MCC on various issues. The memorandum focused on issues such as health and hygiene, infrastructure, garbage disposal, public sanitation and vehicle parking problems. Considering the growth of traffic in the city, it is time for MCC to consider the introduction of mass transport system such as SkyBus project of Konkan Railway, the memorandum added.

Capt J.P. Menezes, KCCI President, presided over the programme.
