Mumbai , Dec. 15 Skoda Auto India has launched the 2007 Skoda Superb in the country. The upgraded model has cosmetic changes such as a new-look front grille, side rear-view mirrors with signal-turning lights (similar to the Honda Accord V6 and Mercedes C- class & E-class), new-look brake lamps and a MP3 compatible six-CD changer. These features make the new Superb (diesel variant only) dearer by Rs 50,000 at Rs 26 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). There is no change in the prices of the new petrol variant, which stays at Rs 23.18 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). There are plans to launch the manual variant for the diesel and petrol Superb models too, though the launch date has not bee fixed, say senior officials of the company. Currently, the present models have an automatic (tiptronic) gearbox. Skoda sold 58 units of the Superb in November and 700 units for the January - November period. Skoda Auto India launched the Superb petrol variant in 2004 while the diesel variant was launched in 2005 respectively. Besides the Superb model, the company is likely to launch a face-lift version of the Octavia range. It is also keen on introducing an `Elegance' variant of the Skoda Laura. The new base model is likely to be introduced priced at sub-Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom price, Mumbai); currently the Laura is available at Rs 16.35 lakh. Skoda recently announced a price hike of Rs 15,000 across their complete model range from January 2007 to cover a jump in input costs, said a press release from the company. It has sold 11,000 units so far against a target of 12,500 units for the calendar year 2006.
