Marg Const to hire people through job fairs

Archana Venkat

Chennai , Dec. 17

Marg Constructions Ltd, a Chennai-based construction company, plans to hire about 100 people by March 2007. This is part of the company's plan to become a 500-strong organisation over the next two years.

With about 120 employees at present, the company plans to recruit through job fairs in future, according to Mr G.R.K. Reddy, Managing Director.

Shortlist

For starters, the company has short-listed ten candidates at `EmployABILITY 2006', a job fair for physically challenged people. Initially 66 candidates were short-listed of which ten have been chosen for the final selection process that will be held at the company's premises.

Candidates have been short-listed across all positions that an infrastructure company would look for. This includes civil engineering, finance and general management.

When asked why the company was opting for job fairs as opposed to campus recruitment, Mr Reddy said, he was looking for in-depth knowledge in candidates (but not necessarily work experience), which fresh graduates usually lacked.

He was impressed with the physically challenged candidates at EmployABILITY and said their understanding of the industry was unmatched by regular candidates.

The company has infrastructure such as special ramps and toilets to support physically challenged employees and would continue hiring them, said Mr Reddy at the sidelines of the fair.
