Thiruvananthapuram , Dec. 17

Software companies in Technopark and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) of the US have formed a technology collaboration council (TCC) to explore areas of potential collaboration.

ORNL is a multi-programme science and technology laboratory managed for the US Department of Energy by UT-Battelle, a not-for-profit company partnered by the University of Tennessee and Battelle, a science and technology enterprise.

Scientists and engineers at ORNL conduct basic and applied research and development to create scientific knowledge and technological solutions that strengthen US leadership in key areas of science; promote clean energy; protect environment; and contribute to national security.

ORNL also performs other work for the Department of Energy, including isotope production, information management, and technical programme management. IBS Software Services hosted ORNL, which in turn signed the MoU with the Technopark. The two parties would first identify areas of common interest for research and development. They would further explore opportunities to exchange personnel to work on technically challenging projects.

Empowerment

Mr V. K. Mathews, Chairman and Managing Director, IBS Group, said the aim was to empower organisations to harness the potential that ORNL offers. Dr Jeffrey Wadsworth, Director, ORNL, said that the alliance would significantly enhance its research and development capabilities by enabling access to both facilities and resources at Technopark.

"Besides, this will open new avenues in the way we conduct our research and manage projects by adopting the remote operations methodology practised at Technopark," he added.
