Mumbai , Dec. 18

Vallabhdas Kanji Ltd (VKL), Asia's largest processor of spices and part of the Rs 500 crore Kanji Morarji Group, has acquired Mumbai-based Beeta Chemicals for an undisclosed sum. Set up by an eminent scientist Dr Ramesh Mantri, Beeta Chemicals will now operate as a division of VKL.

"The proposed pepper plant would make VKL one of the pre-eminent suppliers of value-added black pepper. It should catapult us into a position of significantly influencing the global pepper supply chain," said Mr Ajay Mariwala, Managing Director, VKL.

Vietnam subsidiary

VKL recently set up a subsidiary, VKL Vietnam Ltd, to enhance its global presence.

"We have already acquired a factory site at the `Vietnam Singapore Industrial Park', a joint venture of the governments of Vietnam and Singapore. The state-of-the-art plant will process and steam sterilise pepper at Vietnam for export," said J.B. Mariwala, Chairman, VKL. Headquartered in Kochi, VKL has three manufacturing locations at Kochi and subsidiaries in the US and Germany.
