Rubber prices in correction mode

Spot rubber prices slipped into a corrective phase on Monday. Though the international markets were visibly bullish, the domestic trading centres experienced moderate selling pressure since most of the players believed that the prices were ruling at dangerous levels.

Sheet rubber RSS 4 declined to Rs 90 a kg from Rs 92 a kg at Kottayam and Kochi.

Futures weaken

The rubber futures also weakened on NMCE. The January contract surrendered to Rs 90.11 (Rs 92.86), February to Rs 91.50 (Rs 94.24), March to Rs 93 (Rs 96.19) and April contract to Rs 95.67 (Rs 98.47) per kg for RSS 4. The trading volumes were better at 8,499 (4,060) tonnes, while the open interest stood at 7,146 (6,601) tonnes.

The January contract for the grade concluded at Rs 89.81 a kg against Rs 92.51 registering 1,076 (635 ) lots on MCX. The January futures for RSS 3 weakened to 202.7 Yen (Rs 79.92 ) against 196.9 yen a kg at TOCOM. The grade was better by 45 paise at Rs 75.82 a kg at Bangkok spot.

Physical prices (Rs a kg) were as follows: RSS-4 90 (92); RSS-5 88 (89.50); ungraded 83.50 (84); ISNR 87 (Rs 88.50) and latex 60% 55.80 (55.80)
