Mangalore , Dec. 18

The Mangalore-based Web portal - daijiworld.com - is planning to launch an Internet TV channel to cater to the needs of non-resident Mangaloreans overseas.

Addressing presspersons here on Monday, Mr Walter Nandalike, Editor-in-Chief of daijiworld.com, said that nearly five lakh people from Mangalore region reside in various parts of the world.

The TV channel will telecast the important news clips and major event clips from Mangalore region through Internet. He said the Internet TV channel — TVdaijiworld - would have tie-ups with local TV channels for contents.

Mr Nandalike said that TVdaijiworld would be launched in the first week of January.

To begin with, the channel will run only for a few minutes a day. However, the channel can be accessed any time during the day on demand. "We want to make it a 24-hour channel in future," he said. Established in 2001, daijiworld.com was started with the intention of promoting Konkani language and culture. "The popularity of the portal has forced us to bring in more and more innovations," he added.
