`Younger people are industry's new customers and leaders'

MR G. RAMACHANDRAN, financial consultant, addressing the students of Dhanalakshmi College of Engineering.

Chennai , Dec. 19

Asia is in the news. India is the `news maker'. The young want it all and younger people are industry's new customers and leaders. "So you are shaping the industry," said Mr G. Ramachandran, financial consultant, to the students of Dhanalakshmi College of Engineering, in a lecture organised by the Business Line Club.

Speaking on the topic `Four years: Your force for the future. Four years: Your investment for your future,' Mr Ramachandran said, "Your horizon has widened, your country's horizon has widened, the world is now everyone's own place and you no longer belong to a village, state or a country, but the whole world."

Ideas have a habit of travelling far and fast. One must count on his ideas as it is the only fundamental asset that one possesses. "Our ideas and we have travelled more in the last ten years than at any time in the past. What has happened in the last 10 years is much more than what has happened 26,990 years before," he said.

Relevance, right directions, speed, continuity, ability to rejuvenate and ability to respond to the attempts at rejuvenation are the major challenges faced by the industries and these can be solved by the capability of the human mind.

The four years in college helps one see, decide and plan for the next four decades. The skill set that one has will last or have market value for at the maximum four years.

"Therefore, learn and practice multi-tasking, as it will play a major role in defining your career," he emphasised.

Besides 400 students of first year engineering batch, others present on the occasion were the Chairman, Dr V.P. Ramamurthi; Principal, Dr R. Kannappan; Adviser, Dr K.S. Balan, and Director - Placement Services, Ms V.R. Radhika.
