Ahmedabad , Dec. 20

The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) and the Ahmedabad-based Torrent Power Ltd on Wednesday signed the distribution franchisee agreement for Bhiwandi circle for supply of electricity there.

MSEDCL is the distribution company undertaking supply of electricity in Maharashtra.

Torrent Power would take up the distribution of power to 1.6 lakh customers in Bhiwandi circle, the company said in a release here. Torrent Power is expected to take over the operations from January 15.

Meanwhile, the company has already begun the groundwork for taking over the operations in Bhiwandi. Torrent Power, which currently distributes seven billion units to over 1.8 million customers in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Surat in Gujarat, has one of the lowest T&D losses in the country at 9.67 per cent and one of the highest power reliability at 99.87 per cent.

It has been the pioneer in providing customer friendly solutions such as 24X7 call centre, mobile vans for providing onsite services, multiple payment options and so on due to which there exists a high degree of customer satisfaction.

Torrent Power is implementing an 1,100 MW gas-based greenfield generation project near Surat, which is expected to be commissioned by the third quarter of 2007.

It has stakes in the entire value chain of the power business, that is generation, transmission and distribution, and was recently declared the "Best Power Distribution Management Company."
