Our Correspondent

Madurai , Dec. 20

To showcase the strengths of traditional systems of medicines, an exhibition `AYUSH 2006' is being held at the Maditssia Auditorium in the city, from December 22-25.

"The exhibition seeks to create awareness on the proven results of traditional medicines in siddha, ayurveda, unani and homeopathy for the benefit of the general public," said Mr P.T. Krishnamoorthy, President, Madurai District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association (Maditssia), while briefing media persons on the event, here on Tuesday.

Dr V. Kalidoss, Chairman, AYUSH 2006, said the effort was to revive the knowledge developed under traditional systems. The service under allopathic system has become prohibitive for the common man. Traditional systems while being cheap, would have no side-effects, he added.

The Vice-Chairman, AYUSH 2006, Mr S. Umapathy, said a free medical camp including free consultancy and free medicines, an herbal show of more than 4,000 varieties on display, seminars and contests have been programmed during the period. The seminars would be on the role of siddha medicine on lifestyle disorders, preventive principles of siddha system for positive health, natural techniques for memory development of children, role, importance and history of siddha system of medicines.

Maditssia will organise the exhibition in association with the Central Research Institute for Siddha, Government of India, Chennai, All India Ayurvedic Congress, Madurai unit, and a host of other institutions
