`Complete broad gauge conversion soon'

Madurai, Dec. 20

Madurai District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association (Maditssia) has urged the Union Minister for Railways, Mr Lalu Prasad, to complete the ongoing broad gauge conversion work in the southern districts soon. A team led by Maditssia President, Mr P.T. Krishnamoorthy, which met the Minister recently at New Delhi, pointed out that the backward districts in the South depended mainly on tourism for development and hence the urgency for an early completion of the work especially, double lining between Madurai and Dindugul. Other demands placed by the Association include introduction of day train from Madurai to Bangalore and Thiruvananthapuram; early construction of Rail Bhavan at Madurai for the benefit of passengers. A copy of the demands has also been submitted to the Unioin Minister of State for Railways, Mr R. Velu, a Maditssia press release said.
