CPSE officers urged to withdraw strike call

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Dec. 20

The Government today appealed to the officials of Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) not to go ahead with their strike call from December 22 as their demands for higher pay is being examined by a committee appointed recently.

"I would like to appeal to them not to go on strike. All their legitimate demands will be considered," the Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Minister, Mr Sontosh Mohan Dev, said here.

He said the Government has already set up a committee for revising their salaries and the employees should put forth their demands before the panel.

Higher Salaries

The Government had recently appointed a committee for revising the salaries of executives and other supervisory staff of the State-owned companies.

A Co-ordination Committee of Officers Associations of CPSEs had on Tuesday announced their decision to go on an indefinite strike on Friday to press their demand for higher salaries.

The striking officers from CPSEs including BSNL, MTNL, NTPC, HPCL, BPCL, BHEL, OIL, GAIL, SAIL and Coal India Ltd said they would go on strike if their demands were not met by Thursday.

Demands

They are demanding merger of 50 per cent dearness allowance with basic pay with effect from January 1, 2005, removal of monetary ceiling on payment of gratuity, release of ad-hoc payment pending discussion with next pay panel for salary revision and removal of 50 per cent ceiling on allowances.
